Lawn Care

Weather-synced treatment calendar for one lawn, ten weeds, and a June beetle problem. Every date below moves with the forecast — and where the forecast can't reach, with 16 years of local history.

Settings changes everything below

If you're running the self-hosted calendar generator, point this at it and Apply will save your settings there too — so the cron job stays in sync, and reopening this page with ?api=<that URL> in the address bar reloads everything automatically (bookmark it that way since this can't use browser storage).

Next actions weather-gated

Waiting on forecast data.
Logic: herbicide/fertilizer apps need a 24–48h dry window after application to bind before rain; the fall pregermination soak is timed backward from the nearest predicted 0.25"+ rain day so seed drop meets natural moisture instead of a hose. Open-Meteo only returns ~16 days out, so actions outside that window show as scheduled-but-not-yet-checkable.

Year program fixed calendar

Windows are calendar-anchored for the transition zone; the live check above only adjusts the day within the window, not the season itself.

Pregermination → Milorganite coat

  1. 1. Trigger Soak starts when the app flags a 0.25"+ rain day 2–4 days out during the Aug 20–Sep 20 window.
  2. 2. Soak Tall fescue seed in a bucket, water covering by ~1", loosely covered. Rinse and drain 2×/day. 24–48h is enough to see white chits (root tips) on most of the seed — don't wait for a full radicle or it mats and clogs the spreader.
  3. 3. Drain hard Dump into a mesh bag or colander and drain until no free water runs off — this is the step people skip and then the next step turns to paste.
  4. 4. Dry-coat Spread the wet seed thin on a tarp, sprinkle Milorganite over it and toss/stir by hand until every seed is coated and separate, not clumped. Milorganite's dry granule texture is what makes this work — it wicks surface water off the seed and gives the spreader something to meter.
  5. 5. Spread same day Broadcast spreader, half rate N-S then half rate E-W. Coated seed flows like a coarse fertilizer, not like bare wet seed.
  6. 6. Let the rain do the rest Keep foot traffic off until the rain event passes and germination is visible (7–14 days). Hand-water only if the forecast rain fails to materialize.

Weed & pest matrix

Zones sun exposure

Break the lawn into named areas by how much sun they get — shade-loving weeds like ground ivy and violets cluster predictably, so knowing which zone is which helps you spot-treat instead of guessing. This is a reference layer: it doesn't split the shopping list by zone, just tags which weeds to expect where.

View satellite image of this property →
No automated sun/shadow analysis here — that needs a paid mapping API and real shadow modeling from building/tree heights, which is beyond what this app does. The satellite link is just a visual reference to eyeball while you define zones below by hand.

Identify a weed photo ID

Snap or upload a photo of anything in the lawn you can't place. It gets added to the matrix above and the shopping list below if it needs something you don't already have.

Backup identifier (optional)
If the primary ID comes back unclear, this app will retry once with Google Gemini. That one isn't built in — paste your own free Gemini API key from aistudio.google.com/apikey to enable it. Kept in this tab's memory only — never saved, never sent anywhere but Google.

Gear check & shopping list price-checked

Est. to fill gaps (recommended picks)$0
Every link was pulled from a live retailer page, not guessed — the starred option is the pick for price + reliability together, dimmer rows are backups if that one's out of stock. "Check stock first" means the listing itself reported intermittent availability at build time. Quantities sized to 11,000 sq ft.

Best time to buy

CategoryBuy windowWhy
Pre-emergent (Prodiamine)Nov–JanAhead of the Feb–Mar spring rush when demand and price both climb
Broadleaf herbicide (SpeedZone)Dec–JanSmall-bottle sizes run short by spring most years — buy before stock tightens, not after
Grub control (GrubEx1)Late summer/fall clearance or Feb before seasonBig-box clearance pricing shows up Aug–Oct once the current season's stock needs to move; otherwise buy early spring before the May rush
Fertilizer (Milorganite)Watch Jan and early fallOff-cycle clearance windows tend to beat in-season list price at the same retailers
Grass seedJun–JulBuy ahead of the Aug–Sep renovation rush — seed sells out and prices firm up once everyone's overseeding at once
Aerator rentalBook 1–2 wk aheadEveryone wants one the same August weekend — reserve rather than walk in
General retail seasonality for this product category, not a live price feed — treat as a planning heuristic, not a guarantee this year follows the same pattern.
